2020: Ikeja Football Coaches Roll Out Plans

Authorities of the Ikeja Football Coaches Council have rolled out developmental plans aimed at making the incoming year 2020 a worthy one for the game and all coaches under its umbrella.

During the council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and end of the year party held at the Agege Stadium on Thursday, 19 December, 2019, Coach Tunde Adeshina, the council Secretary, hinted that in 2020, efforts would be intensified on health clinic and training and development programmes for coaches.

Other plans in the kitty, according to Adeshina include seminars for coaches to update their knowledge, employment opportunities, fostering more relationship with football stakeholders and philanthropists and improve council members and general attitude.

Other keynote speakers of the council headed by Coach Dosu David described discipline, respect, responsibility and good ethics among qualities expected from coaches of the council.

Discipline: Knowing what you need to know and how to approach it. Certain qualities must reflect in an individual as a coach.

Coaching ethics: There are things you must know before claiming to be a coach. Without telling anybody, people must see the ethics in you to realise you are a coach.

Respect: You will be respected when you possess good discipline and coaching ethics. Always talk like a coach, and people will listen.

Responsibility: Some coaches don’t have training programs. Some assume training equipment is meant for players alone. Some don’t even bother about the welfare of their players…all these things are a must do for any coach to forge ahead on the job.
