Bishop Ogunbanwo Pays Tribute To Late Madam Odukoya

Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd Dr Babatunde Ogunbanwo, has paid tributes to late Yeyeoba Felicia Modupe Odukoya, describing her as a devoted Christian in her lifetime. 

Giving the words of wisdom at the deceased burial, the Resident Vicar, Revd Canon Nelson Olamuyiwa, standing in for the Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Revd Dr. Babatunde F.R Ogunbanwo, implores everyone to be in love and peace and always remember all their loving ones that had rested in the Lord, at least on All Saints Day. 

The theme of his message was ‘I shall be remembered’, in which he puts it to the congregation that “we should be asking ourselves, what we shall be remembered for – building the church and community or scattering it.”

He said that “Madam Odukoya was once a time sitting on the pews like you and I, but now she is no more with us. In like manner, what shall be said about us?” He therefore prayed for Divine Peace, Unity and Harmony. 

He further appreciates the efforts of the family of Madam Odukoya, in clearing and keeping the church cemetery clean. He enjoined all indigenes of Ilado to assist in the present drive of Community Development going on. 

In remembrance of Madam Odukoya, the family ambassadors, Deaconess Patience Morenike Oropo and Evangelist Olumide Odukoya gave their widow’s mite towards the building of ‘Jericho wall’, round the church, starting from the front. 

After the church service, remembrance prayers were said at the cemetery. Guests from all walks of life and across the globe were entertained with various delicacies and cuisines from different caterers including Asabi Foods from Lisabi Arena.

The late Madam Odukoya, one of the children of Pa Emmanuel Atinmo was born on Tuesday, July 10th 1923. She attended St John’s Anglican Primary School, Ilado, constructed with bamboos then. On completion, as the usual popular trend then, Rural-Urban drift, she went to live with her senior sister, Madam Kujimiyo in Lagos, who in turn enrolled her to learn Typing and Shorthand. Along the line, she became a Store Clerk for Pa Odutayo Oluwo at OreOfe Store at no 66 Denton Street (now Muhammed Murtala Way) Oyingbo. With connection from Pa Oluwo, she became the Chief Cook (Head Chef) at IjebuOde Commercial College, which later became OluIwa College and now, Adeola Odutola College. Mama was blessed with many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, before she died on Wednesday October 6th 2004. In her lifetime, Madam Modupe Odukoya was fully involved in all church and community activities. She was a staunch member of Omo ni Ini Society, the Treasurer of Church Mothers’ Union (Egbe Aya Bisobu), Church Representative at all Diocesan activities, Matron of the church choir, to mention but a few.
