Call to Action: Has Kogi State abandoned Halima Abubakar? ~By Oluwaseun Fabiyi

With her extensive background in the Nigerian entertainment industry, Halima Abubakar, a respected United Nations Ambassador, actress, filmmaker, and philanthropist, has become a beacon of inspiration for the younger generation, showcasing her expertise and dedication over the decades.

Beyond leveraging her theatrical skills to entertain and enlighten a global audience, her Halima Abubakar Foundation (HAF) has offered support to many vulnerable children, widows, orphans, and aged persons.

Without mincing words, Halima has indeed proven to be a worthy representative of her origin, Kogi State.

It is no longer news that for the past six years, she has been afflicted by a mysterious illness and fighting for her life. Having exhausted her entire savings on medical treatment and disposed of nearly all her assets, she publicly disclosed her struggle with depression, seeking financial support from benevolent Nigerians.

To be honest, I was deeply moved to tears while watching her Instagram live session where she made this shocking revelation.While weeping profusely, she described how she had been homeless and how her aged mother had been responsible for providing her meals.

It is utterly astonishing that the Kogi State government seems to be neglecting her at this pivotal moment in her life.

Is it only after she passes away (God forbid) that the government will spend millions of naira on a ‘befitting burial’? Must the government wait until she is pushed to the brink of depression and despair before acting?

Halima Abubakar is a prominent celebrity who has successfully showcased Kogi State globally through her contributions to the entertainment industry, exhibiting remarkable longevity for over twenty years.

In the realm of the film industry, Halima’s accomplishments serve as a shining example of perseverance and dedication. Her success, established years before Mercy Johnson’s ascent, underscores her status as a true pioneer, deserving of accolades while a notable actress online with her from Kogi State is Lola Alao who has since relocated to overseas.

As a Yoruba proverb says, times of distress show us who truly cares. The Kogi State government, led by Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, is capable of doing better.

Discarding Halima along with the unwanted elements is not an option. As your daughter, Halima deserves your unwavering support, especially during this trying time. Having served as an ambassador for the state for over twenty years, Halima Abubakar needs your care and concern now more than ever.

Halima, I am combining my faith with yours, and I am hopeful that you will successfully navigate your current circumstances. I am praying in support of you, and please understand that suicide is not an acceptable option. Cling steadfastly to your faith in God, and I am convinced He will provide relief at your point of need.
