Cultists kill boy, Rashidi Arulogun in Lagos, as targeted brother is on the run

There was tension in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State yesterday, Tuesday January 7, 2025 as cultists suspected to be members of the dreaded Aiye confraternity killed a boy identified as Rashidi Arulogun in Jaladugbo Street, Ikorodu, southwest Nigeria. 

The late Rashidi was said to be outside his compound at 19, Jaladugbo Street when the cultists numbering about three in a Toyota Camry car invaded the area and opened fire on him before zooming off, leaving him in a pool of blood. He was said to have been killed after the cultists confirmed that he was the younger brother of one Azeez Arulogun who has been on their wanted list for some years. When concerned neighbours rushed him to the nearest hospital, he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

For many years, Ikorodu has remained one of the Lagos areas facing incessant bloody cult clashes and reprisal attacks, a development that has been giving the residents and law enforcement agencies sleepless nights.

Impeccable sources in the area disclosed that this was not the first time that members of the Aiye confraternity attacked the deceased residence. They claim that his death cannot be unconnected to a long dispute between the cult group and the deceased elder brother, Azeez Arulogun, who has since absconded.

A resident of the street who craved anonymity told our Reporter that sometimes in 2015, Azeez Arulogun was embroiled in a dispute with the cult group, and he has been a prime target, though several attempts to murder him proved abortive before he disappeared from the area till date.

“It is a problem that started many years ago, around 2015 I think. It was Rashidi’s elder brother, Azeez who was having issues with the cultists. I heard they were trying to initiate him into the group, but he was adamant, and they have been after his life. This is not the first time the Aiye cult members are attacking the Arulogun family house in search of Azeez, but he had escaped by whiskers. I’m sure it was the anger of not finding him that made them kill Rashidi,” a neighbour said.

Another neighbour who doesn’t want his name in print noted that “these cultists are not likely to stop attacking that family until they find their target, Azeez Arulogun whose whereabout has been unknown for some years now. This is very sad because we cannot sleep with our two eyes closed in this area. We are using this opportunity to plead with the Nigerian Police forced and other concerned agencies to come to our aid. This madness must stop,” he noted.

Further investigation revealed that the deceased elder brother, Azeez Arulogun, a prominent fashion designer, was entangled in the mess after he refused to be initiated as member into the dreaded Aiye cult group.

A source disclosed that after Azeez Arulogun failed to join the confraternity after being given an ultimatum, the members who were feeling insecure because he already knew their identities and secrets, swore to eliminate him. It should be noted that it is a tradition among members of the Aiye Confraternity to kill members who resign, or others who outrightly refuse to join their evil gang.
