Veteran Nollywood actor, Victor Edogun, has added his voice to dozens of Nigerians calling on the Federal Government to declare every October 25 a Private Broadcasting Day.
Tomorrow, 25 October, 2022 will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the annual Raymond Dokpesi Endurance Trek, an event organized by the Raymond Dokpesi Centre for Media Development.
The purpose of the trek is to celebrate Raymond Dokpesi, an icon and trailblazer of private broadcasting in Nigeria.
According to Christopher Ebuetse,
DG Raymond Dokpesi Centre for Media Development, “As practitioners in the broadcasting industry, we find it fulfilling recounting Dokpesi’s pioneering efforts in the advancement of private broadcasting in Nigeria.
“The annual endurance trek will be done by people from all walks of life. It will also be used to request from the federal government of Nigeria, to declare the 25th of October, a day of private broadcasting.”
The trek will begin at 10am, from Kola bus stop, Alagbado, and terminate at AIT’s compound.
Victor Edogun, who is one of the celebrity participants of the trek, reiterated that “private broadcasting is an undeniable panacea and a robust accompaniment to a hybrid society and throbbing nationhood such as ours. Only balanced media reportage and good journalism can assure our fragile democracy a worthy, vibrant standing as well as quality livelihood.”
He continued: “Consequently, it’s importance cannot be over-emphasized. Thus, it is only prudent that 25th October be declared a day of private broadcasting in our cherished and beloved country, Nigeria.”
