Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Senate President Godswill Akpabio had an uproar during plenary that halted proceedings for more than 15 minutes.
The incident started while Akpabio was reading the Votes and Proceedings from the last legislative session.
While the chamber was discussing a piece about the South Africa debate, Oshiomhole raised a point of order. However, the Senate President overruled him, citing restrictions in Senate Standing Orders 2023 (as amended).

Tension returned as the Senate shifted to a segment on recent revisions to the Senate Standing Rules, and the Edo North senator attempted to raise another point of order.
Despite multiple interventions, Oshiomhole insisted on being heard. Other senators, notably former Chief Whip Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, spoke out in support of the Senate President, emphasizing that points of order are not allowed at that stage of the proceedings.
Senator Tahir Monguno, the Chief Whip, worsened the matter by warning Oshiomhole that he would face disciplinary action if he did not follow the rules.
A very unhappy Akpabio then delivered a severe warning: “If you become unruly, we will use the rules to remove you from the Senate.”
Order was eventually restored, and the Senate approved the Votes and Proceedings. Senator Adamu Aliero moved the motion, which was backed by Senator Abba Moro, the minority leader.
