Sequel to the 2 years ban imposed on Lagos State based NNL side, Smart City Football Club by the board of the Lagos State Football Association, and based on the letter of appeal and request for leniency by the management of Smart City, the Disciplinary Committee of the LSFA based on the merits and demerits of the team, decided to reduce the weight of the sanctions.
At the sitting of the LSFA Disciplinary Committee held Monday March 2nd, 2025, at the Surulere Secretariat of the LSFA, and with the LSFA Vice-Chairman Adedotun Coker and other members of the Disciplinary Committee in full attendance. And after listening extensively to the plead for leniency and acts of remorse by representatives of Smart City led by Alhaji Kamaldeen Olawoye, Club Secretary Wale Afolayan and Team Manager Adebiyi Ojo, the following decisions were announced;
1. The LSFA Disciplinary Committee pointedly hinged the reductions on the well-being and future of the players and the devastating effects it would have on the career of the players.
2. It also stated that the club’s swift action to apprehend and handed the violent football fan who caused the incident to the Nigerian Police for further prosecution, also swayed the LSFA to reduce the sanctions.
3. That the fine was reduced to 1 year, beginning with a 3 months ban that runs from March to June, 2025. Including the ban excluding the team from the Lagos State President Federation Cup of the 2025/2026 season.
4. The team’s financial sanctions was thereby reduced from N6million to N3million.
5. The team (Smart City FC), was thereby banned from participating in all the LSFA sanctioned football competitions.
