A 29 year old man Akinbile Muhammed has been remanded in prison custody for assaulting a police officer on lawful duty.
According to the police, Akinbile Muhammed was hiding inside a vehicle and was recording the police officers when one of the policemen saw him.
When the Policemen questioned him for recording them, he could not provide any satisfactory reason and when they demanded that he deletes the recorded video, he refused instead he engaged the officers in a physical combat and in the process teared the uniform of constabulary Olayiwola Olalekan and also damaged the patrol vehicle before he was eventually overpowered and arrested.
Akinbile Muhammed was subsequently charged to Ogba Magistrate Court.
The charge reads: “That you, Akinbile Muhammed ‘M’ and others now at large, on the 9th day of December 2025 at about 1700 hrs, at Dopemu area, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magistrate District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit
felony to wit conspiracy and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.’’
Count II: “That you Akinbile Muhammed ‘ M’ and others now at lage, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magistrate District, did unlawfully obstruct a police officer while carrying out his lawful duties at Dopemu area of Lagos State by recording him and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.’’
Count III: “That you, Akinbile Muhammed ‘M’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magistrate District, did unlawfully assault a police Constabulary Olayiwola Olalekan ‘m” and tore his uniform and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.’’
Count IV; “That you Akinbile Muhammed ‘ M’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magistrate District, did unlawfully damage police patrol vehicle belonging to Dopemu Division Police Headquarters Agege Lagos, which caused damage to the vehicle’s door thereby committed an offence punishable under section 451 of the Criminal law of Lagos State 2015.’’
However, he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr. L . A Owolabi, granted him bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending when he perfects his bail conditions.
