NBM of Africa condemns the dehumanization of Miss Comfort Emmanson, demands justice

In our culture, we say, “When you strip a person of their clothes, you strip yourself of your honour.” The recent dehumanisation of Miss Comfort Emmanson at a Nigerian airport, under the watch of officials of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), is an affront not only to her dignity, but to the dignity of every African.

 

No allegation, however grave, justifies stripping a woman in public view. This shameful act has cast a dark shadow over our aviation system and revealed a troubling double standard, where ordinary citizens are handled with brutality, while the powerful and Well-connected people are spared even when they flout the same laws.

 

The NBM of Africa, whose foundation rests on African tradition, equality and social justice, demands:

 

1. That all officers and individuals responsible for this act be identified and brought to book without delay. Justice must not sleep simply because the victim is without political power.

 

2. That the NCAA and FAAN immediately institute mandatory training programmes for all airport security and enforcement personnel, to ensure that future incidents are managed with professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to both Nigerian and international aviation protocols.

 

In the words of our elders, “A wound on one finger spreads pain to the whole hand.” This incident is not just about one woman, it is about the values of our nation. If we allow such dehumanisation to go unpunished, we are telling the world that in the land of our fathers, power decides who is human and who is not.

 

We call on the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development to act decisively. Let the world see that Nigeria is a nation where the law is a shield for the weak as much as it is a sword for the strong.
