Popular Nollywood Actress Arrested for Robbery in Lagos

Police operatives from Aswani Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Oyin Francess, have arrested a Nollywood actress, Jennifer Ifunanya Ogbonna after she allegedly robbed a makeup artist, Blessing Yusuf of her bag containing items worth N1.8m and escaped.

Our correspondent reports that the incident happened at Ikotun roundabout after Jennifer, as she is popularly known in Nollywood, visited Blessing Yusuf, who wanted to travel the next day out of Nigeria.

Jennifer allegedly ran away with the lady’s bag on the road. After she had escaped with the items, she blocked every access to reach her and started disposing the items before she was tracked and arrested at a popular hotel by Volkswagen Bus Stop, Ojo Alaba area of Lagos.

Upon her arrest and being taken to the Station, Jennifer, who hails from Ubakala area of Umuahia, Abia State, said that she was filled with anger as Blessing was about to travel outside Nigeria and the thought came over her to rob her because she had such experience in the past and she did so.

She said she was married and had two kids before she divorced her husband, joined Nollywood and started acting films in the industry.

On how she met Jennifer, the complaint, Blessing Yusuf, said that she met her at a location when they went to shoot a film and from there they exchanged contact.

On the day the incident happened, Blessing said that Jennifer called her and she went to meet her at Ojodu Berger, where they stayed and discussed before she told her that she was homeless and wanted to sleep in her house till the next day.

She accepted and they slept in her house till the next day. When she was to travel, the suspect, Jennifer, volunteered to see her off. By the time they got to Ikotun, where Blessing wanted to buy one item, she disappeared with her bag.

The matter was reported to the Police, who moved into action as she was eventually arrested and detained at the Station for interrogation.

When  our correspondent visited Aswani Police Station, the suspect, Jennifer, was seen writing statement but our reporter was unable to speak with her. The DPO was also said to have gone on routine monitoring in the area.

However, sources at the Police Station said that the Police have recovered some of the items and she has also made confessional statement.

The Police said she will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence after the conclusion of investigations.
