PROMOTION IN THE ARMED FORCES IS A PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT, SAYS MINISTER OF DEFENCE

The Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) said promotions in the Military is not a right but a privilege. General Magashi (rtd) stated this in a remark after performing the ceremonial decorations of two newly promoted officers serving in the Ministry of Defence.
He told the newly decorated Officers, Lieutenant Commander Osahon Junior Osagie and the Platoon Commander, Ministry of Defence, Provost Company, Captain Fausilat Bukola Salami to see their new ranks as wake-up calls to higher responsibilities in service to the Nation.
The Minister, while recalling his years in service as a Commisioned Officer in the Nigerian Army described their new levels as the foundational rank in their career progressions that will prepare them for higher attainments that will in future qualify them for generalship.

He therefore told them that professionalism must be their watchword which requires total commitments, loyalty and respect for seniority in the discharge of assigned duty.
In their seperate words of advice for the newly promoted Officers, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence Sab’iu Zakari and the Principal General Staff Officer to the Defence Minister, Brigadier General Auwal Fage tasked them not to compromise the ethics of hard work and integrity at all times.
