One Jamal Oluwafemi Oriyomi Folorunsho who claimed to be the first son of the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki monarch, has defrauded a Qatar-based lady, Nosirudeen Mutiat Opeyemi to the tune of N2 million.
Early this year, Opeyemi and Jamal met on social media platform Facebook where they exchanged intermittent chats that metamorphosed to a distant relationship.
As their relationship gets deeper, they started having conversations of plans for the future, individual set goals and aspirations. It was in one of those in-depth conversations that Jamal claimed he also worked for PWAN Homes owned by his father, the Ibeju-Lekki monarch. He said he could help Opeyemi buy a land and that she can be paying on instalment, though the payment receipt and the land would only be allocated to her after complete payment. She agreed, not suspecting Jamal’s intention to defraud her.
From February this year, Opeyemi started transferring money to Jamal’s account in tranches before it completed two million naira.
However, after she completed the payment, Jamal went incommunicado. He had blocked Opeyemi on the phone and social media.
Opeyemi told this medium that Jamal has an accomplice who posed as an agent that works with him. She said the fake agent would sometimes call her to give an update on the choice of land and allocation. The so-called agent has also blocked her.
According to her, “along the line, I started noticing that Jamal would only chat with me when the time I promised to send money was due. If I tried calling him before then, his numbers would not connect. But I thought it was just a coincidence.”
Meanwhile, Jamal is currently chatting with another lady, giving her the same format he used in swindling Opeyemi. But unknown to him, the new lady is a friend to Opeyemi. This indicates that Jamal is a serial fraudster taking advantage of unsuspecting members of the public, ladies in particular.
When this medium checked Jamal’s Facebook profile, he claimed to be offering “Estate Development, Estate investment and Homes services” with a business address at Floor 1 to 5 Puri Mall Building, KM 25, Lekki Epe expressway, Oko Odo, opposite Leawood Hotel, Ajah, Lagos 101233.
As at time of filing this report, efforts to reach Jamal on the phone were abortive as he didn’t respond to calls and Whatsapp messages.
