Top Youth Football Academy Celebrates …Seek Sponsors for New Year

The players and management of Top Youth Football Academy, Ifako, Ogba-Lagos celebrated their end-of-the-year training on Thursday, 19 December, 2019 amid pomp and ceremony.

After a light training session, the team was joined by other well wishers to mark the end of an eventful year in celebration.

The club’s Head Coach, Dominic Vincent, described the outgoing year as a reasonably successful one for the five-year-old team, particularly at the Lagos FA Cup where they got to the quarter finals, a feat many popular teams around Ogba and Ikeja are still struggling to achieve.

“Also, we have three players who will be in Malta for trial in a few days, and some in other parts of the country. We have a lot of connections at our disposal, but we just need sponsors to put the right things in place so that the players can be well motivated and be where they are supposed to be,” Coach Dominic hinted.

Coach Dominic, who started his management career with Our Lady Football Team after a successful stint as a player, added that “I sell players to scouts, agents and coaches, even in the Nigeria Premier League. Presently, football is about attacking, so my style is an attacking form of football. I attack my opponents, they make mistakes and we pounce on that. I look up to Athletico Madrid pattern, and people who have watched our games can attest to that.”

One of the team’s key players, Innocent Akpan, a left-foot back, described Top Youth Football Academy as a “very strong team,” adding that “Our coach is very dynamic. When his game plan is not working in a game, he changes it. He is very good at that and he is very efficient with his work.”

In his own words, team skipper, Chike Emmanuel who is also a striker, likened Coach Dominic to Athletico Madrid of Spain Manager, Diego Simeone
