Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD occupies a conspicuous place in the national politics of Nigeria as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly. Beyond this prominent position, he remains an indelible part of the growth and development of democratic representation and sustainable legislature — not only in Nigeria but on the international stage as well.
At the APC House of Representatives Primary Election held on Saturday, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas was “returned unopposed.” Yet, a formidably massive crowd turned out to witness the event, creating a scene that went far beyond a routine exercise.
A cursory observer would be taken aback by the apparent paradox of the affirmation process. While such political events are normally quiet administrative procedures, this one became a loud and unmistakable signal.

The huge crowds served as living testimony, emphasizing the need to look beyond the ballot and carefully read the clear intent of the people present. The event proved to be a true game-changer.
It rewrote existing narratives and stated clearly that being returned unopposed does not imply a dictatorial imposition or a candidate warning others not to dare contest. On the contrary, it represents a rigorous diplomatic and persuasive democratic overture.
With gratitude, it tells all democrats that the primary window has closed, broad consensus has been successfully built across all stakeholders within the constituency, the wider APC structure, and that everyone has united behind the best among the rest.
Challenging Rt. Hon. Abbas would amount to kicking against the solid bricks of party elders, well-established grassroots structures, and the federal caucus. The total absence of opposition was therefore a clear indication of political sagacity, deep-rooted grassroots mobilization and acceptance, and firm alignment among all concerned stakeholders.
This time around, APC primaries are determined largely through the direct primary system. This approach returns legitimacy and the real power of decision-making to the teeming members of the party.
In that context, the organic mammoth crowd sent a strong warning to external opposition elements and detractors: the coast is not clear, and any resources expended on a contest would only end in futility and wastage.
To the party, the impressive turnout signaled that Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas is not merely a ticket-holder but the man with the capacity to deliver votes. To his constituents, it was a powerful demonstration of confidence and a firm determination to return power to where it truly belongs — the people.
The message was unmistakable: they remain the strong anchor of support. Whatever happens in Abuja is not enough on its own; their votes count because they themselves count. Distinctively, the organic mammoth crowd transformed what could have been a mere procedural affirmation into a resounding public endorsement.
It made it abundantly clear that this was not a backroom coronation but a genuine decision made by the constituency. In Nigerian political primaries, which are often dominated by frictions, bad blood, and deep unresolved fall-outs, a clean and uncontested primary like this one breeds unity and stability ahead of the general election.
The truth remains that a politician does not secure an unopposed return ticket unless the people genuinely believe he has delivered on his promises. The massive turnout stood as undeniable attestation to that perception.
Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has successfully solved the political equation of his constituency. While the ballot records the votes, the crowd attests to the fundamental belief of the party structure. In this instance, both aligned perfectly.
This has elevated Rt. Hon. Abbas from an ordinary member into a low-risk, high-credibility asset — not just for the APC but for the nation at large. He symbolizes rare qualities of indisputable integrity and unambiguous leadership: attributes that are safe to promote and safe to trust with bigger and higher responsibilities.
With this outcome, Rt. Hon. Abbas can now focus with unrelenting zest and minimal distractions. There are no debts to settle and no factions to manage, making him highly reliable for critical party leadership decisions.
Indeed, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas’ clear endorsement and public validation of legitimacy represent strong political currency. It is a powerful manifestation that can attract millions of votes to the APC.
He is a man endowed with the moral authority necessary for any leadership role and strategic committee placement.
