...Asks If It's Truly A Viewers' Choice Award
The 2026 edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) has come and gone, but not without heated debate and criticism from fans.
The AMVCA was held in Lagos on Saturday, 9 May 2026 amid pomp and ceremony with Uzor Arukwe clinching the best lead actor category while Linda Ejiofor emerged the best lead actress for her role in The Serpent’s Gift.
However, some fans have faulted the nomination and winning process of the awards.
According to an X user @TAdetola13746 “THE HERD WAS ROBBED!
From a whole 9 nominations to just a single award! Maybe there were sensitive issues or politics behind the decisions. Still, it is sad because The Herd deserved more recognition; at least Best Director, please. Daniel gave everything to that movie. #AMVCA12.”
Another X user, @Prechy2255 said “Year after year, AMVCA continues to rob Kemi Adetiba. She produces something that takes the internet by storm and when it comes to award, they give it to someone or something we barely hear. How the fuck did TO KILL A MONKEY NOT WIN BEST SERIES.? #AMVCA12.”
Others questioned why films that are barely known to viewers are winning all the awards, compared to the ones that are popular.
@The_Bolutife said “For an award ceremony titled “Viewers Choice Awards” movies that Viewers haven’t watched shouldn’t be nominated for any award till it’s available to the public!!! Africa Magic should do better!!! #AMVCA12 #AMVCA.”
