Please Don’t Demolish My House the Second Time, Blind Man Begs LASG

Kelly Igbere, a blind man popularly known as Kelly Blind, has appealed to the Lagos State Government to halt the plan of demolishing his house the second time.

New Town Development Authority (NTDA) had issued him a seven days notice to quit his property in Oreki Alakun Community via Eleko Junction, Ibeju Lekki, Ajah, Lagos. The building was marked for demolition.

Igbere told our Correspondent that “I’m a family man with children and wife. The reason why I’m talking today is that I want every Nigerian and Lagosian to listen to me very well. I can’t imagine my house being demolished the second time. They should come to my aid.”

The visually impaired man explained that “My property was destroyed two years ago in this same Ibeju Lekki; a house I built and finished. With the help of Nigerians, I was able to build another three bedroom bungalow, but now, the Lagos State Government wants to demolish it again. The seven days notice they gave me has elapsed.

“I’m calling on the Federal Government, National Assembly,the President, Vice-President, Lagos State Governor and everybody to come and see what is going on in this Ibeju-Lekki because we can’t continue like this.
“This is an injustice to me. I’m calling on the Judiciary and everybody to come and see what is happening to people like me.”

He added that the demolition notice was served by NTDA on 14 May, 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown.
