A LAGOS BASED IMO STATE LADY ACCUSED OF KILLING HER HUSBAND

One Mrs Chioma Elizabeth Obi Nee Obasi of Obohia Village, Umuocha, in Ahiazu, Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, South-East Nigeria, has been allegedly accused of the death of her husband, Mr Emeka Obi, a native of Umuofum Village, Ahaizu, Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State, South- East Nigeria.

Mr Obi was said to have contacted a mysterious illness on the 23rd day of July. 2019, and died in his sleep on Thursday, 25th of July, 2019 at their residence at 43 Aremu Olatunbosun Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos State. But trouble started when the deceased family and relatives accused his wife, Chioma, the widow of late Emeka Obi of killing her husband. They claimed that she must have used diabolical means to take the life of their son, to enable her inherit the vast properties of her late husband, who died intestate and without any child, thereby urging the Village Head to ensure justice is done.

Therefore, frantic pleas from Chioma that she is innocent of the allegations levied against her fell on deaf ears of the deceased husband family members and kinsmen, who insisted that Chioma must undergo their village archaic and barbaric custom and tradition passed on women accused of killing their husbands, and that is for her to shave her head bald, drink of the water used to wash the corpse of her husband, as well as being locked up in the same room with her late husband’s embalmed corpse for 3 days, or risk being stoned to death by incitful youths of the said village.

Meanwhile, Chioma who was working in an oil and gas company was said to have took to her heels, and her whereabout is unknown as at the time of filing this report. Her disappearance has further fuelled the belief amongst the family members of her deceased husband that she has a hand in her late husband’s death.

Expectedly, she has been declared wanted by the Village Head and her deceased husband’s family, who are keen on avenging the death of their son.
