…Deaths Recorded
The local government primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held across Lagos State on Saturday, 29 May, 2021 was marred by violence and irregularities in many of the voting points.
In Haastrup Street, Surulere, two persons were shot dead as thugs allegedly loyal to House of Representatives Speaker, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila unleashed terror on supporters of their candidate’s rival.
Distraught residents have identified two notorious thugs in the area as being allegedly behind the killings. The two thugs are: Baresi and Yussuf Afolabi, otherwise known as Faida.
Baresi is the chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Ojuelegba branch.
Before the shooting, Baresi had led thugs to Rabiatu Thompson Primary School, another voting venue where he and his boys wielding an English pistol and pump action guns chased voters away.
In Ifako-Ijaiye, voting was also disrupted as thugs allegedly working for three-time member of Lagos State House Of Assembly representing Ifako-Ijaiye State Constituency 01 and ex-Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the Assembly, Dayo Saka Fafunmi, went on rampage at Ward A, Ifako-Ijaiye.
The accreditation was going on smoothly at about 11am until Fafunmi allegedly arrived with a popular thug in Ifako-Ijaiye named Rasaq Shittu popularly known as Aroko and Deola Abatan, Baale of Yaya Abatan and a member of NURTW holding dangerous weapons attacking opponents.
In the process the gate leading to the voting centre was pulled down, and members of the party got injured.
The elections primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) was also marred by violence, shooting and irregularities.
Party supporters who had arrived as early as 8:00 a.m. across the seven political wards of the council area were made to wait for three hours before election materials and officials arrived at some designated venues while they did not arrive at others.
In Ajao Estate and Alagbeji despite the late arrival of voting materials, election could still not hold as hired thugs invaded the venues wielding dangerous weapons and shooting sporadically into the air. The ensuing confusion saw many party supporters scampering for safety even as election officials ran for their dear lives.
Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area was not left out as two supporters of a leading Chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi were macheted and hundreds disenfranchised during the election.
Her agents in four wards namely Gowon, Federal, Abesan 1 and 2 were forced to sign election papers at gun point while one was whisked away to an unknown destination for refusing to sign the papers.
Victims of the machete attacks are Hon. Oladosu Sheriff Olasunkanmi and Shonibare. The duo are receiving treatments at a clinic within the LCDA.
Election in all the five Wards were disrupted by thugs and cultists allegedly hired by the incumbent council boss, Princess Olabisi Adebajo; her husband; Alhaji Yisa Yusuff, a party chieftain; and Moshood Olateju Bello (Mobell).
