OGUN 2027 RUMBLINGS: High-Level Pressure Exposed to Strip Leading APC Aspirant Hon. Hunye of Protection

The media office of a leading All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, has alleged a plot to compromise his personal security ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

This was disclosed in a strongly worded statement signed by Media Office of Hon. Abayomi Hunye APC Governorship Aspirant, Ogun State, Femi Oyewale on behalf of the aspirant, the campaign organisation claimed that there is pressure from high-ranking officials of the state government on security agencies to withdraw all security personnel attached to Hunye.

According to the statement, the pressure is being mounted by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security in conjunction with the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

“The Media Office of Hon. Abayomi Hunye wishes to bring to the urgent attention of the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the national leadership of the APC, and the general public, a sinister plot to compromise the personal security and safety of Hon. Abayomi Hunye,” the statement read.

It described the alleged move as a direct and dangerous threat to the life of the aspirant, his family and members of his campaign organisation, and as an anti-democratic attempt to intimidate him.

The campaign said politics should not be reduced to state-sponsored intimidation or political vendetta, stressing that the machinery of government exists to protect all citizens regardless of political alignment.

The media office stated that should any harm or security breach occur around Hunye, his family or his campaign team, the political leadership of the state, particularly the offices mentioned, should be held directly responsible.

It appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff, the DSS Director-General and the Ogun State Commandant of the NSCDC to resist any political pressure and to maintain or reinforce the security detail attached to the aspirant.

The statement added that Hunye remains resolute in his democratic commitment and will not be deterred by intimidation or harassment from pursuing his governorship ambition.

The group therefore called on civil society organisations, elder statesmen and political leaders to take note of what it described as a threat to internal democracy and public safety in the state.
