Nollywood Producers Want To Box Me Into Odogwu Roles – Actor Uzor Arukwe

Nollywood star Uzor Arukwe has lamented being constantly typecast as an “Odogwu” character, insisting he should not be confined to a single role.
The actor stated this during an appearance on The Creativitea Podcast, where he revealed that producers keep pitching similar roles to him because they feel it guarantees box office returns.
“All the Nollywood producers now want to kill me with Odogwu roles. You can’t put me in a box,” he said.

Arukwe called on filmmakers to be more adventurous and create diverse characters for him, just as someone took a risk on the Odogwu role that brought him widespread fame.
“Just as someone took a chance on that character, you can also create a different character and give it to me,” he added.
His reaction follows comments by his manager, Mautin Tairu, widely known as Mr M, who also admitted he was getting tired of the actor’s repeated “igbotic” roles.
It was gathered that Tairu made the remark on X while replying to a fan, R. Ekpedeme, who complained about Arukwe’s frequent shouting in such roles.
“Uzor needs to leave the igbotic roles for a while. I need a break from the shouting,” the fan had written.
