AGN To Host International Actors Day Nationwide On August 26

Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced plans to mark International Actors Day across the country on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, with activities aimed at honouring actors and promoting the welfare of practitioners in Nollywood industry.
This was disclosed in a strongly worded press release signed by its National President, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, and made available to newsmen, the guild said the celebration will join actors and the global creative community in recognising the sacrifices, talent and creativity of men and women who have shaped the motion picture industry.
According to AGN, International Actors Day is an opportunity to celebrate actors, promote their professional development, strengthen unity within the acting community, and highlight the cultural and economic value of the film industry, adding that the day will also be used to reflect on challenges facing actors and renew commitment to building a more sustainable and globally competitive creative sector.
“For Nigeria, the celebration holds special significance,” the statement read. “Nigerian actors have, over the years, demonstrated extraordinary resilience, creativity, dedication and professionalism, helping to transform what is popularly known today as Nollywood into one of the world’s most recognised film industries,” the statement reads.
AGN emphasized that through their performances and cultural expressions, Nigerian actors have projected the nation’s identity, heritage and values to global audiences, while also contributing to employment, tourism, investment and the growth of the creative economy.
To mark this year’s edition, the guild said it has lined up community service and outreach programmes, social networking engagements, actors’ hangouts, industry interactions, goodwill activities and other initiatives designed to promote camaraderie, professional networking and members’ welfare.
Alhaji Yakubu commended Nigerian actors for their commitment to the growth of Nollywood, stressing that the industry’s remarkable journey would not have been possible without the talent, courage and perseverance of its actors.
He called on Nollywood guilds and associations, industry stakeholders, government at all levels, corporate organisations, development partners and Nigerians to support the celebration and make it meaningful.
“The celebration should go beyond entertainment,” he said. “It should serve as a platform to strengthen solidarity, encourage partnerships, promote actors’ welfare and reaffirm the importance of the creative sector to national development.”
The Actors Guild of Nigeria therefore extended greetings to actors in Nigeria and around the world, congratulating them in advance and inviting the public to celebrate “the passion, creativity and enduring spirit of the actor.”
