Another jailbreak escapee arrested in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old Kuje prison escapee.

The suspect, Abubakar Mohammed, was apprehended while trying to cross from Adamawa to his home state, Borno, it was said.

Police said yesterday that Mohammed confessed that he was facing terrorism charges and had been at the Kuje prison since 2017 before the recent jailbreak.

He was picked up after days of surveillance.

Commissioner of Police Sikiru Akande said in a statement that Mohammed was trying to relocate to his hometown in Bama, Borno State, when he was picked up on the Adamawa-Borno border on Wednesday.

Our correspondent gathered that the state CP has handed Mohammed over to the state Correctional Service chief, Ahmed Usman.

Akande said other suspects were held in connection with kidnapping and armed robbery, adding that assorted weapons were recovered from them.

The House of Representatives yesterday expressed displeasure over the delay in the implementation of the recommendation of its special security summit, one year after.

The House at plenary asked the government to immediately commence the implementation of the recommendations.

Presenting a motion on the need to investigate the attack, Chairman of the House Committee on National Security, Sharada Shaban, recalled during a visit to the centre, Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi, Rtd saying that over 600 inmates, including 64 Boko Haram suspects, out of about 994 inmates accommodated in the custodial Centre escaped.
