Ember Month: Customs Officials Intercepts Over N3.6million Poultry Products On High Sea

The Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has intercepted 351 cartons of frozen poultry products on the high sea, even as the Command destroyed the items worth over N3.6million in Duty Paid Value, DPV before Journalists and officials from other security agencies.

Speaking at the site where the items were destroyed, the Acting Deputy Comptroller in charge of Administration, AC Ifeanyi Ohanyere, who represented the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller BN Binga, disclosed that the items were seized on the waterways at T-Junction, Moba, Badagry axis.

AC Ohanyere further revealed that the prohibited items were seized at about 12:37pm on 7 December, 2019, by operatives of Western Marine Command.

He stressed that the operatives of the Command are working assiduously on waterways to thwart the nefarious activities of economic saboteurs in this ‘ember month’.

Ohanyere asserted, “We are patrolling the creeks and waterways 24 hours. We are constantly alert, especially this particular month of the year, when smugglers are devising various means of bringing contraband into the country”.

He went on, “Nigerians should support the Federal Government on border closure for us to grow our own food, instead of depending so much on imported items.

“Also, we need to support government in encouraging the growth of local industries, in order to create jobs for our people”.

The seizure and destruction of these 351 cartons of poultry products is coming only few days after the same Command intercepted uniforms belonging to the Navy, Police, Immigration and Military, as well as other items worth over N61.6million, using the two gunboats recently launched by CGC Ali Hameed to boost patrol surveillance on high sea.
