The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Owo, Ondo State branch, has commended the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu for his effort in the areas of security and welfare of the people.
In a statement signed by Ahmed Tajudeen Olutope, Esq. Chairman, NBA Owo branch, he said “Prior to the coming on board of Governor Akeredolu and during the early days of his administration as the Governor of Ondo State; Owo town used to be a ‘ghost’ city as from 7pm till the wee hours of the following day. This is because of darkness that usually pervades every nook and cranny of the ancient city as a result of the absence of street lights.”
The statement reads further that “The perpetual dark nature of Owo town gave room for the triumph of all forms of evil and atrocities that comes with darkness. As such, crime and all forms of malfeasance acts were the order of the day. The rate of criminal prosecution was high and there was steady swell in the number of correctional inmates. Lawyers on the other hand were having field days in court on daily basis consequent upon large volume of criminal trials.
“With Mr. Akeredolu’s road revolution and lightning of urban centres, Owo as one of the beneficiary communities became lightened up. With the street lights that now dot the entire length of Owo major roads, darkness and the evil that comes with it have disappeared from major streets. One can now move around with confidence and courage without the fear of any evil machination. The people are happy and feeling secured.
“Besides, the provision of street lights in Owo by the Akeredolu led government has brought on board the advantages of night economy. It has resulted in the total activation of the entire 24 hours of the day as productive hours. This has greatly boosted the economy of the people and their welfare. In Owo now there is night economy of entertainment, catering, shopping, street food, taxis, stage plays and sundry other things that make the night tick.
“Even when the rate of criminal prosecution has reduced consequent upon drastic reduction in crime rate, we as lawyers are happy about the development. We are satisfied and fulfilled that the people are happier, more comfortable and more financially viable than before. We are proud of Mr Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN for leading a government that have lived up to the essence of governance.”
