Love Isn’t Enough, Genotype Matters, Says Adekunle Gold
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has said his genotype played a major role in his decision to marry, because he is SS.
The “Pick Up” crooner made this known in a recent episode of the One54 Podcast, explaining that he would not have gone ahead with the relationship if his wife, Simi, was not AA.
“For me, love alone isn’t enough. I don’t think it makes sense to bring a child into this world and they would be sickly,” he noted.

“I wouldn’t have married my wife if she were SS or AS. When my wife and I first met, the first thing I did was find out her genotype. She is AA. That was why I decided to proceed with the relationship.”
Adekunle Gold has been vocal about sickle cell awareness since publicly revealing that he lives with the SS genotype.
The singer married fellow musician Simi in January 2019, and the couple now have two children.
