Rainstorm Destroys Several Homes In Kaduna Community, Killing Two Persons
A severe rainstorm unleashed havoc on Dokan Mai-Jama’a, a small community in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area, killing at least two people and destroying more than 50 homes.
The Village Head, Hamisu Tukur, acknowledged that the storm that hit on Monday evening displaced numerous residents and caused considerable damage throughout the area. According to him, scores of houses were seriously damaged, with others completely destroyed by powerful winds.
Residents reported that the torrential rain began at 6:41 p.m. and lasted around 40 minutes, accompanied by severe winds that ripped off roofs and reduced buildings to rubble. Many families were left homeless, and they were seen attempting to rescue what they could from the debris.

The storm also caused substantial damage in nearby Sabon Gyero, which is part of Millennium City and falls under the same local government region. It destroyed residences and more than ten perimeter fences. The deluge exacerbated traffic congestion after a major road was shut, forcing cars to seek alternate routes.
Affected citizens have petitioned the state government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) for immediate assistance.
Emergency officials have subsequently begun to analyze the situation, with NEMA dispatching a team to assess the scope of the damage and determine the appropriate response.
This type of thunderstorm is widespread throughout the rainy season in northern Nigeria, and it frequently causes loss of life and property.
Authorities, particularly the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), have issued warnings of increased rainfall intensity this year, raising fears about future catastrophes.
