The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” in connection with violent crimes involving assault and murder on Lagos Island.
Police said the suspect is in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, where a discreet investigation is ongoing.
According to the command, the first incident occurred on September 17, 2025, at about 3:00pm, when Oladiti allegedly attacked a dispatch rider, using a helmet and fists to inflict serious injuries. The victim was rushed to hospital, placed on oxygen, and is currently receiving treatment.
Another complaint linked to Oladiti was lodged on September 18, 2025, regarding an earlier altercation on August 28, 2025. The suspect allegedly used a metallic ring to repeatedly strike a man on the head and face, inflicting severe injuries. Despite medical intervention, the victim was confirmed dead on September 17, 2025. His body has since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Following news of the death, sympathisers of the deceased staged a violent protest at the suspect’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, setting two motorcycles belonging to him ablaze and causing unrest in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led mobile policemen, conventional police officers, and tactical squads to the scene to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order. He assured residents that the suspect would face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that justice will be diligently pursued in all the cases against the suspect,” the statement read. “CP Olohundare Jimoh further appeals to residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and not to take the law into their own hands. He enjoins them to cooperate fully with the police in the ongoing investigations.”
The statement was signed by DSP Babaseyi B. Oluseyi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.
