The Quiet To Premiere AS Closing Film Of AFFIF 2026, Launching A Movement Against The Normalization Of Insecurity

THE QUIET, a gripping four-part Nigerian film series exploring insecurity, kidnapping, and the human cost of collective indifference, will have its world premiere on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the closing film of the 5th Africa Films for Impact Festival (AFFIF 2026) at Silverbird Cinema, by the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
The red carpet begins at 2:00 PM, with the event commencing at 3:00 PM.
Created by filmmaker Bright Wonder Obasi and produced by High Definition Film Academy (HDFA), THE QUIET tells the story of a nation confronting the abduction of 67 children and the uncomfortable questions that arise when repeated tragedies gradually become part of everyday life.
Through the experiences of families, journalists, security personnel, public officials, and ordinary citizens, the series examines the consequences of silence, the human cost of insecurity, and the responsibility of individuals and institutions to challenge what should never be normal.
At its heart, the film asks: What happens to a society when it becomes so accustomed to suffering that it begins to accept it?
The film screening will be followed by a post-screening conversation titled:
“BREAK THE QUIET: From Outrage to Action — What Must Nigerians Do?”
The conversation will bring together voices from diplomacy, filmmaking, international development, government, civil society, and the wider creative community to examine how Nigerians can move beyond temporary outrage towards meaningful and sustained action.
Discussions will address citizen responsibility, institutional accountability, community safety, the protection of vulnerable people, responsible media engagement, and practical steps towards building safer communities.
The objective is to move beyond condemnation and create space for honest reflection on what individuals, communities, institutions, and leaders can do differently.
The premiere programme will feature keynote addresses by the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS and veteran Nigerian filmmaker Steve Gukas.
Other invited distinguished guests include Embassy of Italy in Nigeria, Norwegian Embassy, Plan International delegation, alongside representatives of other diplomatic missions, international organizations, government agencies, development institutions, filmmakers, media professionals, civil society organizations, and film enthusiasts.
Their participation will contribute to a wider conversation about the human consequences of insecurity and the collective responsibility to protect lives, strengthen communities, and build a more peaceful society.
For the filmmakers, the premiere of THE QUIET is not the destination. It is the beginning of a movement.
Through impact screenings, university and school engagements, community conversations, and collaborations with relevant institutions and organizations, the initiative aims to extend the film’s message beyond the cinema.
Its ambition is to challenge the normalization of insecurity and suffering, encourage sustained civic participation, and inspire people to move from simply expressing outrage to taking responsible action within their communities.
Speaking about the vision behind the project, Bright Wonder Obasi said:
“We have become very good at reacting to tragedy. We mourn, express outrage, demand answers, and then another headline comes along. Somewhere along the way, we risk becoming accustomed to things that should never be normal. We gradually begin to lose our humanity
THE QUIET asks us to look beyond the tragedy and examine what repeated suffering is doing to us as a people. We did not make this film because we believe a film alone can solve Nigeria’s insecurity. We made it because stories can confront uncomfortable truths, bring people into difficult conversations, and challenge us to think differently about our responsibility to one another.
The premiere is not the destination. It is the beginning of a conversation—and hopefully, a movement.”
The movement is anchored in three calls:
BREAK THE QUIET. Challenge the normalization of suffering and refuse to look away.
BUILD THE PEACE. Turn concern into constructive action that contributes to safer communities.
REMEMBER THEIR NAMES. Refuse to let victims become forgotten statistics.
