Akon Says Musicians Famous But Often Broke

Senegalese-American singer Akon has said musicians are not as wealthy as many people assume.

Contrary to the flamboyant lifestyles and luxury often displayed on social media and in music videos, he claimed that many artists are not financially stable.

This statement was disclosed in an interview with Hip Hop Eye, emphasizing that music is lucrative, but executives and backend players earn more than the artists themselves.

“In the music industry, the artist is the last to get paid. He is the broke one but he is the most famous. If you want to be broke and famous, be the artist,” he stated.

Akon therefore advised those seeking real money should to consider other roles in the business, saying “If you want to make real money go to other sectors of music business, like the producer, songwriter, manager, agent and attorney. There are so many areas in the entertainment field that you can really maximise,” he added.
