Be More Civil, Dr Ewenla Urges Police Officers

The CEO of Adedas and Company Global Services, Dr Adedipe Ewenla, has urged men of the Nigeria Police Force to be more civil while dealing with members of the public. 

Reacting to the murder of commercial motorcyclist, otherwise known as Okada rider in Lagos State recently by a police officer, Dr Ewenla described the incident as unfortunate. 

Dr Ewenla queries that “Why should a police officer whose duty is to protect lives and properties take the life of an unarmed Okada rider because he refuses to surrender himself for search. If that is the case, he should have allowed him to go rather than killing him. It is too bad and things like this led to the Endsars protests. 

“The police should learn from their past mistakes and make amends. We are in a civil society where the rule of law should be obeyed by everyone. The IG of police should look into the activities of Lagos State Taskforce.”

Also reacting to the incident, the Araba of Ojokoro Kingdom, High Chief Fawemimo said the police should treat members of the public with caution adding that killing innocent citizen is not the solution to any dispute as the police are being paid to protect the lives and properties and also urge the police authority to fish out the killer police officer and prosecute him to serve as a lesson to others. 

On his part, Sunday Adegun said the police authority has a lot to do by educating their officers and men who carry arm on when and how to use the fire arm instead of killing innocent citizens whom they are to protect. 

An Okada rider was shot dead by a trigger happy policeman at Ile Epo in the early hours of 24 May, 2021 which resulted to a protest by angry Okada riders and many vehicles’ windscreen were smashed as police from the other divisions and Lagos State Taskforce were deployed to restore normalcy.
