Supremacy battle between rival cult groups, Eiye and Aiye confraternities has left one person dead in a Lagos hotel.

Our correspondent gathered that members of Aiye cult group first attacked their Eiye counterpart at Osho Street, Fagba-Iju area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

Investigators revealed that Aiye group at about 8pm on Thursday, 24 September, 2020 attacked Eiye group where one member of the Eiye cult group identified as Segun Ogumodede A.k.A Badoo was shot dead in front of the hotel.

According to an eyewitness who spoke with our reporter, the police at Oko Oba division were contacted and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the station, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mr Chinedu led his anti-robbery and anti-cultism team to the scene but before the arrival of the police, the cultists had fled the scene, leaving behind their dead colleague whom was later taken away by the police as no arrest was made.

One of the residents who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity said the area has been peaceful until Soulmate hotel was built about a year ago and that ever since the area has ceased to be peaceful as both cultists, yahoo boys and Indian hemp smokers have taken over the place, making the hotel their haven.

“We have been living in this area in peace for a very long time now before this hotel was built about a year ago and since then we have been living in fear as we cannot go out early in the morning as we used to because the bad boys who are always in the hotel will attack and dispose you of your valuables.

“We have also complained to the owner yet he did not do anything about it. We are begging the government to please come to our aid, things are really getting out of hand,” a resident appealed.

Speaking with our reporter the Baale of Orile Egbiri, Chief Samuel Iyanla Oye Adegboyega said he has been the Baale of Orile Egbiri for the past five years and that the community has been peaceful until Soulmate hotel was built and ever since then hoodlums such as cultists, Indian hemp smokers and those involved in other social vices invaded the area using the hotel as a hideout.

Baale Adegboyega further states that the former DPO in charge of Oko Oba in company of Area ‘G’ police commander with other stake holders have once visited the place to assess the situation yet no positive response from the police to address the problem.

Another elder in the community, Chief Ajani Olutade said the Community Development Association (CDA) has written several letters to the hotel owner inviting him to a meeting and he has always ignored their letter of invitation.

“We have written series of letters of invitation to him and he has always ignored the letters and the police we look up to are not forth coming. We do hope that the new DPO will take necessary measures to put an end to all these things,” he said.

When our reporter visited the hotel to get the reaction of the hotel director, Mr Victor Adeyemo, he denied all the allegations saying that what happened has nothing to do with his hotel that they were mere allegations, adding that the cultists fought from one street to his hotel before one of them was shot dead.

“What happened yesterday has nothing to do with my hotel. The boys fought from one street to the hotel before they shot one of their member dead in front of the hotel so my hotel is not involved,” he claimed.
