Nasty C Says Wizkid’s Drake Collaboration Is Boosting African Music Globally

South African rapper Nasty C has praised popular Afrobeat Nigerian singer Wizkid with helping African music gain wider international recognition.
This statement was disclosed during a recent podcast interview. The rapper, better known as the “Zulu Man With Some Power,” said Wizkid’s 2016 collaboration with Canadian superstar Drake on the hit song One Dance played a pivotal role in opening doors for modern African artists abroad.
Nasty C explained that following the collaboration, Afrobeats became significantly more lucrative on the global stage, noting that the success made the genre attractive enough for some rappers to abandon hip-hop and switch to Afrobeats instead.

While reflecting on interviews in Nigeria and Ghana, he pointed out that hosts told him about the shift, stating that, “After the collaboration, African music received a significant boost… some rappers were even switching to Afrobeats because of how lucrative it has become after Wizkid’s collaboration with Drake.”
He therefore added that the partnership between Wizkid and Drake marked a turning point that increased international interest in African music and created new opportunities for artists across the continent.
