NIJAA Meets NIJ Provost, Seeks Stronger Collaboration

The newly elected National Executive Council of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association, NIJAA, has paid its first official visit to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism on Monday since assuming office.

This was disclosed in a press release by NIJAA Publicity Secretary, Comrade Mark Akhuetie, and made available to newsmen today.

The team was led by President Muyiwa Akintunde. They met with the Provost of NIJ, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, at the Institute in Ogba, Lagos.

The visit was aimed at presenting NIJAA’s vision for a more active and impactful alumni body, and charting new areas of collaboration between the Association and its alma mater.

Mr. Adefaye welcomed the new leadership and said the Institute is ready to work with NIJAA, noting the high expectations that come with having a vibrant alumni association.

In a major boost, the Provost pledged to consider allocating office space within the Institute for NIJAA to establish its secretariat.

The Registrar of the institution, Mrs. Patricia Kalesanwo, also stressed the need for NIJAA’s involvement in the governance of the Institute.

The Provost added that resolutions from the meeting would be included in his report to the next Governing Council meeting.

Discussions also covered professional development, mentorship, alumni engagement, institutional support, and the mobilisation of NIJ graduates in Nigeria and across the Diaspora.

The President Muyiwa Akintunde said the new administration is focused on reactivating state chapters, reconnecting with alumni at home and abroad, and building a partnership that benefits both the Institute and its graduates.

“This engagement marks an important first step in moving the Association from nostalgia to impact and from reunions to results,” the President added.
