The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Johnson Olu Irefin has commended Defence Correspondents (Lagos Chapter) for supporting him as the GOC.
He stated this recently while commissioning some projects including a billiard board and Lawn Tennis Court both situated at the 81 Division Officers’ Mess, Marina, Lagos.
It was part of his scheduled activities while rounding off tour of duty at the Division as he prepares to hand over to the incoming GOC.
While appreciating the Defence Correspondents, Gen Irefin sincerely appreciated them noting that their contributions to his successes was unparalleled.
He said “On assumption of office, I found out that without the press, I wouldn’t go far and I want to use this medium to appreciate all of you for the wonderful support I enjoyed from you during my very short but eventful tour of duty.
“Once in a while, we had cases of Information that were not confirmed from the military before they go out, the most important thing is that we have always found a way of resolving it. The bigger picture is that we had a very cordial relationship.
“My successor is not here but when I hand over to him tomorrow, you will see him. However, I want to appeal to you to extend the same cordial relationship you had with me to him. The success I had wouldn’t have been possible without you. I really enjoyed working with you,” Gen Irefin reiterated.
While commissioning the projects, the Asstanct Director Physical Training, 81 Division, Major Suleiman Hassan Hussaini explained the intricacies and technicalities involved at playing a billiard board.
The PMC of the 81 Division Mess, Brig Gen Nsikan John Edet presented a Lawn tennis racket to the GOC, reiterating that Gen Irefin tenure has brought tremendous progress to the Division.
