Pete Edochie Names Awolowo Favourite Nigerian Politician
Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has named the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as his favourite Nigerian politician of all time.
Speaking on a recent episode of Curiosity Made Me Ask with host BaeU, Edochie stressed that he is not involved in politics, but Awolowo stands out for his vision and transparency.
“If you ask me who is or was my favourite politician, I will tell you it is Obafemi Awolowo. Awolowo will tell you, ‘I’m going to build this thing, it will cost so-and-so amount and this is where I’m going to get the money from.’ There is no politician who has achieved that kind of transparency,” he noted.
The legendary actor highlighted some of Awolowo’s landmark projects, noting that the former Premier of the defunct Western Region established the first television station in Nigeria in 1959 the first in Africa.
He added that the Eastern Region began broadcasting in 1960, and that Awolowo also introduced free primary education.
“Regrettably, he never became president,” Edochie added, while also described Awolowo’s record as unmatched in accountability and development.
