Shallipopi Stops Public Comments As EFCC Investigates

Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, says he will no longer comment publicly on his disagreement with former manager Damilola Akinwumi, also called Dapper, because the EFCC is handling the case.

In a statement to fans, the artist said his lawyers and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission advised him to allow the investigation to proceed without public statements.

The update comes after Shallipopi earlier accused Dapper Music and Entertainment Limited of withholding money owed to him.

It was gathered that the prominent singer alleged that the label was holding royalties for 46 of his songs and threatened to report the matter to the EFCC.

Explaining his silence, Shallipopi said speaking out now could interfere with the case, noting that, “My legal team and the EFCC have advised me that, for justice to be served, I need to step back and trust the legal process.”

He added that all allegations against Dapper Music and Entertainment Limited must be properly investigated, and he will not use songs or social media to address the issue for now.

“Because of this, I cannot fight for myself using my music nor my words. I cannot sing about it, talk about it, or share it on any media platform for now,” he said.

Despite stepping back, Shallipopi insisted he still stands by his earlier claims.

“While I stand firmly by the truth of my claims, I now understand why I cannot make public commentary on matters under active investigation, nor use my artistic expression to address them as I did a few weeks ago,” he said.

The singer stressed that the case is personal, saying his career since his teenage years is linked to it.

“Everything I have worked for since my teenage years is tied to this. I remain hopeful that justice will prevail,” he added.

He therefore opined by expressing disappointment that he cannot speak on the matter the way he did previously.
