Alfa Tunde Olayiwola, the man arrested days ago with a human skull, has died in police custody.
The cleric slumped and passed away on Saturday, the police in Ondo announced on Sunday.
Public Relations Officer, DSP Olufunmilayo Odunlami, denied that he was beaten or tortured to death.
Odunlami said the suspect was behaving strangely and was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.
āEven in the hospital there was no sign or mark of violence on his body; he was not torturedā, NAN quoted him saying.
āHe couldnāt have been tortured because the truth of his complicity was already in the open.
āThose who were present when Olayiwola was paraded before newsmen would have noticed that he was not tortured.ā
Commissioner of Police, Oyeyemi Oyediran, paraded Olayiwola and others suspects on December 23 in Akure.
The alleged ritualist was nabbed the same day at the Ajagbale area of Oka in Ondo Town.
āOlayiwola confessed that the skull found in his possession was to be used to ensure he had a better lifeā, the CP told reporters.
