Court Dismisses Police Case Against VeryDarkMan In Abuja

A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has struck out the criminal case filed by the police against social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

The case was dismissed today, after the court ruled that there was no sufficient evidence to proceed.

Announcing the ruling in an Instagram video, VDM said he has been discharged and acquitted, while also emphasizing that the case stemmed from a 2024 charge of impersonation, after he appeared in a video wearing a police uniform.

The police had alleged that he presented himself as a CSP and described himself as Nigeria’s number one online police officer, an act they said violated the law and carried a potential jail term.

It was gathered that VeryDarkMan was arraigned in 2024 over the alleged unauthorized use of the Force’s uniform and he was granted 2 million naira bail in November 2024 while the matter was ongoing.

With the court’s decision, the two-year legal battle has now ended as VDM described the outcome as a victory and said he has been honorably discharged from all charges.
