FG Gives Condition to Lift Twitter Suspension

Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has said that the Federal Government of Nigeria’s suspension on Twitter will be lifted only if the social media platform can be used responsibly. 

Onyeama made this assertion during a meeting with some envoys from US, UK, Canada and UN on Monday in Abuja, but refrained from giving a timeline for lifting the suspension. 

“The condition would be responsible use of the social media and that really has to be it. We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing; why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilisation and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities.”
