How Fake Gold Chain Ended Perry’s May D Admiration
Media personality Tunde Perry has shared the moment he lost respect for singer May D, despite once being a huge fan.
Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Perry recalled attending May D’s performance at Fela’s Shrine in 2012, when the singer was at the peak of his career.
He said May D was performing his hit song with P-Square when he tossed a gold-colored chain into the crowd.

Perry claimed he caught it and immediately felt like he had struck gold.
Speaking in Yoruba, he said:
“May D used to be one artist I loved so much. The very day I started hating him was when I went to Fela Shrine to watch him perform in 2012. He threw his gold chain into the crowd and I caught it. I knew the struggle I went through, so at that moment, I thought I was rich already.”
He added that he barely slept that night out of fear that someone might steal it.
But his excitement didn’t last. The next day, he took the chain to a scrap dealer to sell.
“I rushed to meet an aboki to sell it. The aboki said he couldn’t buy the chain for even ₦200 because it was just condemned iron,” he added.
The story has since gone viral online. While many found it funny, others doubted if it really happened.
