Just In: Kannywood Actress Wasila Isma’il Dies At 46

Veteran Kannywood actress Wasila Isma’il has passed away at 46 following a prolonged illness.
Her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, announced the death on social platforms today , stating that she died at FOMWAN Hospital in Kaduna.
Born in Kaduna, Isma’il became a familiar face in Hausa cinema through roles that earned her wide recognition, and broke into the spotlight after starring in the 1999 film Wasila, directed by Yakubu Lere and co-starring Ali Nuhu.

Her acting career began a year earlier in 1998 with Jinin Masoya.
In a past interview, she revealed that the film’s title was originally Jamila but was changed at her request.
“I didn’t like the name Jamila because I feared it might tarnish my name, so I asked for it to be changed, and the director agreed,” she stated.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief online, as fans and fellow actors have taken to social media to honor her memory and acknowledge her impact on the Kannywood industry.
Meanwhile, many described her as a dedicated performer whose work has shaped the growth of Hausa-language films over the past two decades.
