NATO Backs Ukraine With €70 Billion as Trump Hails Progress Toward Peace
At a major NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy won important support from international leaders and US President Donald Trump.
In a surprising change from their past public disagreements, President Trump announced that the United States will officially let Ukraine build its own Patriot missile defense systems.
Trump explained that because the US cannot easily give away more of its own weapon stockpiles due to its own defense needs, this agreement is a great alternative.

He told Zelenskyy that the initiative would allow Ukraine to make the systems themselves and protect their country using their own highly skilled workers and local factories.
This deal comes at a highly critical time for Ukraine, as heavy Russian missile attacks have left the country running dangerously low on air defense weapons.
While military experts point out that building safe, hidden factories to manufacture these advanced missiles will take several years, the agreement is still a huge step toward helping Ukraine become military self-sufficient over the long run.
Even though Trump joked during a press conference that both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin are “difficult characters,” he stayed very positive about Ukraine.
He praised Zelenskyy’s leadership and noted that recent pressure on Russia could help speed up a peace agreement.
At the same time, the other countries in the NATO alliance agreed on a massive financial plan to support Ukraine. Led by European nations and Canada, the group promised to give Ukraine at least 70 billion Euros in military gear, training, and aid for 2026.
They also made a firm promise to match that exact same amount of funding for 2027. This big two-year financial package ensures that Ukraine will have steady, predictable help to protect its freedom and territory without relying solely on US funding.
