NIJ Secures Historic First FPSA Marketing Communications Crown
Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Ogba Lagos has made history after securing its first victory at the 2026 Future Pitcher Student Academy, the pan-African students contest for marketing communications.
Two Higher National Diploma strategic communications students named, Favour Mbagwu and Kehinde Olatunji, emerged as joint winners after edging out 24 other contestants from across Africa.
Organizers said the result marks several firsts for the competition: NIJ’s maiden win, the first time the top prize has been shared, and the first time two students from the same institution tied for first place.

The 2026 edition of FPSA, previously known as the Future Creative Leaders Academy, was held under the Pitcher Festival organized by CHINI Africa.
It was gathered that, 26 students from 12 tertiary institutions took part this year. They included University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, Pan-Atlantic University, Covenant University, Redeemer’s University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ajayi Crowther University, McPherson University, and Lancaster University, Ghana.
NIJ was the only NBTE-accredited polytechnic in the lineup, with the other participants being National Universities Commission accredited universities.
The win further improved NIJ’s reputation for grooming top communications professionals in Nigeria and beyond.
