Social Media Nearly Scared Us Out Of Nollywood – Jide Kosoko
Veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko, has revealed that the emergence of social media initially left many older entertainers worried about the future of their careers.
According to the respected thespian, many veterans feared that the rise of digital platforms and new technology would render them irrelevant and push them out of the industry.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with THE SUN, Kosoko recalled the anxiety that gripped practitioners of his generation when social media first gained prominence.

“When social media came, we were afraid. Is this not going to kick us out of business? Is this not going to kick us out completely?” he recounted.
He however noted that the older generation was able to adapt over time, largely with the guidance of younger colleagues who helped them understand and embrace the new tools.
Kosoko said social media eventually turned out to be a blessing to the industry, contrary to their initial fears.
“We eventually used it to our advantage, so we have to thank God for that,” he added.
On the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence, AI, in the creative space, the veteran actor admitted he is yet to fully understand the technology.
“When I started seeing AI, I still don’t understand it till now,” he confessed.
Kosoko’s remarks come at a time when Nollywood is navigating rapid technological shifts that continue to reshape how films and other creative contents are made, marketed and consumed.
