Tekno Opens Up On Years Away From Music
Afrobeats star Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has revealed that a serious health issue forced him to quit music at the peak of his career.
In a recent interview on Cool FM Lagos, the singer said severe damage to his vocal cords from acid reflux made him unable to sing, which also kept him out of music for years.
Speaking further, Tekno said he kept the condition to himself, adding that silence made many people, including those close to him, assume he had grown lazy and lost interest in music.

He noted that the period was emotionally draining, and even after he got better, he found it hard to fall back in love with music.
“Even the people closest to me were saying that, ‘He is just lazy. He doesn’t want to perform.’ I was in a very dark place. Even after I recovered, I hated music. I didn’t want to hear music for a long time. I was only forcing myself to do music because I had a deal with Universal,” he said.
The singer said he got his passion back by reading inspirational books, which he stressed that it helped him heal emotionally and reconnect with his craft.
Meanwhile, he rose to international fame in the mid-2010s with hit songs and major collaborations.
