Tobi Bakre Dismisses Gender Bias In Nollywood

Popular Nigerian Actor and media personality Tobi Bakre has called out gender bias in entertainment industry, saying women are vital to the industry’s growth.

Speaking on the Mentality podcast with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Bakre said people unwilling to work with women “are not ready to grow.”

Speaking further, he credited women for much of his career progress, noting, “I have worked with women more than men and I don’t see gender.”

Bakre explained that his approach has always centered on results: “For me, work is work because I came into the industry with the thirst to get stuff done. Let’s get the work done. Let’s shoot the shots. Let’s create.”

Furthermore, he praised the women he has collaborated with for matching his drive: “A lot of the women I worked with welcomed that mentality with open arms. There was no ego,” he stated.

He therefore added that, “Women are so powerful. Thank God for women,” while emphasizing that productivity and creativity, not gender, is guiding his professional choices.
