Tonto Dikeh Opens Up On Past Battle With Drug Addiction

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has spoken about her past battle with drug addiction while advocating against drug abuse and stigmatization.
The screen icon made the disclosure in a lengthy post on her social media page, where she reflected on a difficult phase of her life and how substance abuse became an escape route from emotional pains she could not express.
The actress, who was once seen as controversial, said she was previously perceived as chaotic and broken, but stressed that there was deeper pain behind her actions.
“I was once the chaos people judged. The noise. The mess. The broken decisions,” she stated.
According to her, drugs were not the main problem but a symptom of a deeper struggle, adding that addiction was never her identity but a means of escaping unnamed pain.
“Drugs weren’t the problem, they were the symptom. Addiction wasn’t my identity, it was my escape from pain I didn’t know how to name,” she noted.
Dikeh therefore pleaded by advising members of the public to show compassion to people battling addiction rather than condemning them, stressing that they should not be written off.
She said, “So hate the drugs. Hate the addiction. But never stop praying for the person trapped inside it. because that person is not weak, not worthless, not beyond redemption.”
