VeryDarkMan Slams Vote-Buying Culture In Ekiti
Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has condemned a viral video showing a woman allegedly celebrating after collecting money for her vote during the recently concluded Ekiti State governorship election.
Reacting to the clip, VeryDarkMan expressed frustration over what he called the growing normalization of vote-buying among voters.
He argued that many citizens complain about poor governance, poor healthcare, insecurity, and lack of public services, yet still exchange their votes for small cash incentives during elections.
“People will cry about bad roads and no light, but sell their votes for ₦2,000,” he said in the video.
The activist questioned the long-term consequences of such actions, stating that electoral choices influenced by cash often produce the same leaders citizens later criticize.
He also lamented what he described as insufficient public attention to allegations of vote-buying. VeryDarkMan urged the media and public to give reports and videos of electoral misconduct greater scrutiny and coverage.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti governorship election was held June 2026, with INEC and observers reporting cases of voter inducement across several polling units.
