Zuby Michael Says Igbos Face Industry Mentorship Fear
Popular Nollywood actor Zuby Michael has shared why Igbo talents struggle to get backing from industry gatekeepers and top executives.
He stated this during an interview with Broadway TV, he said many decision-makers avoid supporting Igbos because they worry the talents could quickly outshine them.
“Igbos learn fast and achieve a lot with little support,” he explained. “You could spend 10 years mastering something, and an Igbo mentee will grasp it in one year and six months.”

He added that if a mentor mistreats them, Igbos often leave to start the same business and become direct competition. That fear makes people hesitant to help.
According to Michael, even some Igbo executives avoid supporting fellow Igbos because they fear being betrayed when their mentee rises and surpasses them.
