In what can be described as a final before the final, Gosa FC came out victorious, beating their bitter rivals, AFA 2-1 in a thrilling and epic group stage match.
The ongoing Alausa Adiyan Super 8 football competition witnessed the biggest upset so far, as Gosa FC pummeled one of the Super 8 favourites, AFA in a technically tough derby match.
The first major highlight of the encounter came after three minutes as Toheeb was denied by the crossbar after a spectacular volley.
Seun therefore opened scoring for Gosa in 12 minutes after an abysmal defensive display from Soja and his goalie, Lekan.
Gosa FC went close to doubling the lead minutes later, having created a couple of chances through set-piece.
The game progressed with a repertoire of attacking prowess from both teams. Toheeb also hit the crossbar for the second time with a nicely taken free-kick.
Meanwhile, it was Gosa FC that hit the target once more with a cool finish from Hillary taking the scorelines to 2-0.
The second half witnessed plenty of missed chances from both sides, but Gosa’s defence remains resolute. AFA was denied by the crossbar again, this time with an effort from Samuel.
Molly eventually squeezed in a consolation goal for the disappointed AFA side three minutes from regulation time, making the final score of the match 2-1.
In the other encounter of the day, Pass FA lost 4-2 to Ifako Boys.
